The Micro Insurance Agency is a micro insurance intermediary with global outreach and the ability to work with the best insurance companies to develop and distribute insurance products for the poor. As the world’s first and only global micro insurance intermediary, the Micro Insurance Agency is in a unique position to lead the way in filling the distribution gap in the micro insurance industry and getting affordable insurance products into the hands of those who are currently excluded.

We work through a range of distribution channels to provide suitable life, health and crop insurance products. We began in 2002 within the Opportunity International Network and in 2005, realizing there was global demand for micro insurance, established the Micro Insurance Agency as an intermediary able to work with a broad range of microfinance networks, humanitarian organizations, and other social aggregators.

The Micro Insurance Agency operates as a holding company structure with its head office located in Oak Brook, Illinois and fully-owned subsidiaries in the countries of operation. The head office provides all technical and strategic leadership to the subsidiaries which operate as local relationship managers and data processing centres. Micro Insurance Agency subsidiaries are incorporated as local businesses and regulated as insurance agents or brokers working with locally regulated insurance companies, depending on the most effective legal structure for the country in question.

With outreach in ten countries throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America and fully-owned subsidiaries in four countries, we are actively serving in excess of 3,250,000 lives.
